Teachers are required to teach in a variety of environments with a diversity of students who have different needs. This workshop offers some strategies for how to modify storylines without derailing the coherence that is critical to student learning and problem-solving. This workshop will include experts from our science and special education network to help participants better understand how the Illinois Biology Storyline curriculum can be used with all students in any environment.
Storylines promote equity and belonging for the co-taught classroom. First, testimonies will be heard from biology and special education teachers who have implemented storylines to bring NGSS and equity to students with learning needs. Then explore and participate in developing strategies to modify the Illinois Storylines in a remote and/or in-person environment.
The focus of this workshop will be to get participants comfortable with the nature of storylines and immerse participants in activities that will allow them to reflect on the 3 Dimensions through the Illinois Biology Storylines.
